The 9th ESL IPB International Summer Course 2025
ECOTOURISM, NATURE CONSERVATION, AND FOOD SECURITY
From the City to the Islands’Ssea and Beaches
Bogor and The Thousand Islands, Indonesia, 28 July-27 August 2025
(3 days excursions, 1 day offline course and 15 days online activities)
Description :
As food scarcity grows, tourism may provide the demand and support required for food production and encourage tourism resorts to become more sustainable. However, tourism may also threaten food security and nature conservation. This Summer Course -organized by Dept. of Resource and Environmental Economics (ESL) Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB University— aims to 1) discuss the trade-offs and synergies among nature conservation, tourism and food security; 2) equip participants with basic knowledge on methods on environmental resources valuation and damage assessment; 3) challenge participants’ critical thinking on the course theme through site visits covering city park, small islands and marine ecosystems.

– 3 SKS (equivalent to 135 learning hours) for Summer Course with excursion.
– 2 SKS (equivalent to 90 learning hours) for Summer Course without excursion. - Excursions to the most beautiful tourist sites: from the colourful city botanical garden to the tosca crystal-clear seawaters and small islands’ white sand beaches.
- Various outbound activities including sea crossing ferry ride to The Thousand Islands, swimming on the white sandy beach, snorkelling, biking around small island, water sport (banana boat etc), mangrove boat tour, sea food barbeque dinner party on the beach, and many more.
- Decent accommodations: two nights city centre hotel plus one night beachfront cottage.
- Flexible learning options (online/hybrid, a/synchronous)
- Adjusted lecture schedules to accommodate international students from extremely different time zones

- Great start to explore other famous tourist sites in Indonesia: Bali, Lombok, Yogyakarta, Labuan Bajo, Raja Ampat, etc.
Course Fee :
- Summer Course with Excursion (full 3 SKS program), the options are:
- – 4D3N program = IDR 1,500,000 (domestic) or USD 130 (international)
Package include: two nights accommodation in Bogor, one night accommodation in Pari island, six meals, one seafood BBQ dinner, bus and ferry boat transportation to excursion sites, transportation from hotel to campus, entrance tickets to excursion venues.
- – 4D1N program: IDR 700,000 (domestic) or USD 60 (international)
Similar package to the 4D1N program excludes 2 nights Bogor accommodation and transportation from hotel to campus.
2. Summer Course without Excursion, the options are:
- Hybrid with one day offline course in IPB Dramaga: IDR 100,000 (include 3 meals)
- Full online : FREE of charge, applicable for international students and non-Jabodetabek domestic students ONLY.
Program Itinerary :
28 Jul – 1 Aug : Online courses
4 Aug : International students arrival, Excursion to Bogor Botanical Garden
5 Aug : Opening Ceremony, Cultural Day and Excursion around IPB Dramaga Campus learning sustainable waste management, deer and peacock conservation, etc.
6-7 Aug : Excursion to Pari Island and the surrounding small islands at the Thousand Islands Regency
11-26 Aug : Online activities (workshops and competitions)
27 Aug : Closing ceremony and winner announcement (Online)
Eligibility Criteria :
- Undergraduate/Postgraduate students or Professionals
- Able to communicate and write in English
