Description :
Explore the future of food, nature, and global sustainability in an era of geopolitical uncertainty. The Summer Course “Food Security and Biodiversity Conservation in Times of Geopolitical Crisis” offers a unique interdisciplinary learning experience that connects global policy debates with real-world ecosystems. Drawing on perspectives from Natural Resource and Environmental Economics, Development Economics, and Political Economy, participants will examine how global conflicts, trade disruptions, and environmental change affect food systems and biodiversity worldwide.
Beyond the classroom, the course takes learning directly into the field. Participants will explore small islands, marine and coastal ecosystems, and mountain landscapes through immersive excursions and hands-on activities. Experience island hopping and snorkeling to observe marine biodiversity, participate in mangrove planting for coastal restoration, visit sea-farming initiatives, and learn innovative technologies that transform plastic waste into fuel. The program also includes biking around small islands, hiking mountain trails with panoramic sunset views, and unforgettable conservation moments such as releasing baby sea turtles into the ocean at sunset.
Combining academic insight, policy discussions, and experiential learning, this Summer Course provides an inspiring international environment for graduate students, young researchers, and professionals who are passionate about sustainable development, environmental economics, and global food systems.

Course Fee :
- 4 SKS (eq. 180LH*) Summer Course with excursions:
- 5 Days 5 Nights program = USD 240 (International Students)
- 5 Days 3 Nights program = IDR 1,700,000 (Local Students)
2. 2 SKS (eq. 90 LH*) Summer Course without excursions:
- Full online : FREE of charge, applicable for International students and non-Jabodetabek local students ONLY.
Program Itinerary :
- 26 June – 17 July : Online courses with world-class experts from leading global universities in the UK, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Lithuania and Indonesia.
- 24 July: individual assignment submission (online).
- 26 July: International students’ arrival, welcome dinner Mon.
- 27 July: Formal Welcoming Ceremony, Keynote sessions, Cultural Day and Excursion around IPB Campus.
- 28-29 July: Excursion at Pramuka Island, Gosong Patrick, Air Islands and the surroundings.
- 30 July: visiting tea plantation, strawberry picking, organic farming, hiking at Puncak mountain area.
- 31 July: group work and group presentation.
- 10-11 Aug: online international competition.
- 15 Aug : online closing ceremony and Batch 10 farewell.
