The Department of Economics, Resources and Environment (ESL) Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB University conducted an exploration of cooperation with the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), State Development University (UPN) Veterans Yogyakarta, (29/11).

During his visit to UPN, the Head of the ESL Department of IPB University, Dr Ahyar Ismail was interested in establishing cooperation in the fields of service, research and joint publications.

He explained the profile of the department he leads. “Since its inception in 2005, the ESL Department of IPB University has collaborated with several local governments. The collaboration is through thematic Real Work Lectures (KKNT), Organic Rice and the initiation of collaboration between the ESL Department and universities both nationally and internationally,” he explained.

For this reason, Dr Meti Ekayani as Secretary of the ESL Department added that during this visit there were three main topics that could potentially be discussed. Namely, publication and research plans, service activities and World Class Professor programs.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sujatmika, Dean of FEB UPN Veterans Yogyakarta welcomed the visit of the ESL Department of IPB University. He hopes that this initial visit can create good collaboration between his institution and the ESL Department of IPB University.

He explained that FEB UPN Veteran Yogyakarta became a facilitator of waste management activities, especially waste cooking oil which is mostly produced by culinary businesses in the city of Yogyakarta.

“This waste management can be a topic of collaboration between IPB University and UPN Yogyakarta,” he said.

The same thing was conveyed by an alumni of IPB University who is currently a lecturer and coordinator of the Management Study Program at UPN Veterans Yogyakarta, Dr Purbudi Wahyuni. He has initiated the Clean River Movement in Kali Gajah Wong. In addition to controlling water quality, this movement also improves the community’s economy as well as makes the waste management program a success.

“One of these activities is to support an integrated tourism program based on disaster mitigation,” he explained.

From this explanation, at the end of the visit, the ESL Department of IPB University and FEB UPN Veterans Yogyakarta agreed to further discuss the potential for cooperation, especially in food security and environmental management. (Ang/Zul)
